Civic Engagement
Civic engagement is an important way for former refugees, asylees and immigrants to ensure our voices are heard on important issues affecting us and our communities.
There are many ways to make your voice heard, such as:
Speak during your city, town or county council’s public comment periods at meetings
Testify in support of a bill in your state legislature
Contact your local, state and national elected officials to arrange a meeting
Join a board, committee or commission in your city or county
Vote in local, state and national elections
Run for office
Former refugees, asylees, and immigrants who are American citizens have an opportunity to use your voices to elect local, state, and national leaders.
