Refugee Congress Applauds House Passage of the NO BAN Act, Calls for Senate to Take Action

WASHINGTON—Refugee Congress applauds the passage yesterday of the National Origin-Based Antidiscrimination for Nonimmigrants Act (NO BAN Act) (H.R. 1333) in the U.S. House of Representatives and urges the Senate to take action.
The NO BAN Act would uphold our national tradition of welcome and ensure protections against discriminatory travel bans adopted under the Trump Administration. It would repeal the travel bans targeting Muslims, refugees and asylum-seekers and would outlaw discrimination against immigrants or travelers entering the U.S. based on religion. It would also establish necessary protections to prevent future discriminatory bans.
As an organization built and led by refugees and asylum-seekers/asylees, we know firsthand that refugees, asylum-seekers and other migrants are great assets and valued members of U.S. communities. We contribute to the economic, cultural and civic landscape of our nation in so many positive ways. We value the diversity of this country and the important contributions of many different races, ethnicities, religions and backgrounds.
It is vital that we embrace our nation’s tradition of welcome and support. We urge the Senate to take action and provide support, welcome and protections to refugees, asylum-seekers and other vulnerable migrants.
