Refugee Congress Wishes All an Eid Mubarak
For Immediate Release: April 20, 2023
As a season of spiritual renewal that includes Ramadan, Passover, and Easter draws to a close, Refugee Congress invites our members and partners of all religious faiths and forms of spirituality to envision a world where peace and safety abounds, a world where everyone can share the love and joy of their faith.
It has been a hard month for so many – with gun violence in the US claiming too many lives and armed conflicts across the world putting too many families at risk of being forcibly displaced. As we mark Eid al-Fitr, we hold in our hearts the people of Sudan, of Afghanistan, of Ukraine, of Turkey, and of Syria, who are still mourning loved ones taken by the earthquakes.
For many of us here at Refugee Congress, our faith carries us through these dark times and helps us see that there can be light and love and joy for the world.
On behalf of Refugee Congress, we wish all who are celebrating Eid al-Fitr, the Muslim celebration held at the end of the month-long period of fasting known as Ramadan, an Eid Mubarak.
“As the Holy month of Ramadan comes to an end, and with the passing of Easter and Passover, I want to wish all those who celebrated a happy Eid, Easter and Passover. I hope that this Eid brings you joy, peace, and prosperity! It is also important to acknowledge and remember those around the world who are suffering due to displacement, and those who have lost their lives to gun violence. May the hearts of their loved ones find peace and safety.” - Lourena Gboeah, Chair, Refugee Congress Board Chair
"May this year's religious holiday season bring joy and light to our homes. And may our unique religions, cultures and traditions unite us for human kindness rather than dividing us on what we believe. Eid Mubarak!" - Nejra Sumic, Delegate from Arizona
“May this auspicious occasion of Eid bring peace, love, harmony, good health and prosperity to all of humanity. Wishing happy Eid Mubarak to all Muslims brothers and sisters across the globe. May this Eid fill your life with blessings from Allah, the Almighty.” - Abdul Hamid, Delegate from Wisconsin
"The fast of Ramadan, just like the Jewish holiday of Passover, lets us push the reset button on our habits, our busy lives. Not only do we reset our diets, and adjust our daily lives, to an ancient tradition and rule of (religious) law, we look inward more. We think about our wants vs. our needs and whether there's peace in our lives. As Eid Mubarak fast approaches, we say our prayers, we go back to being busy, and we pause to remember that we're one people, Jews and Muslims, though ideologically different, our religious bond remains our strong connection." - Dianne Carty, Delegate from Missouri
“Happy Eid Mubarak to all my Muslim brothers and sisters. As you celebrate this special day, my thoughts go out to all Muslims who have been forced to flee their countries because of conflicts and wars. May your prayers bring hope and change to families affected.” - Ally Ntumba, Delegate from Indiana
“Christians, Muslims, and Believers worldwide have been in a season of prayers and fasting this month from Eid, Passover, and Easter - trusting and hoping for many things, most especially world peace and love. Yet we can only continue to pray, keep the faith, and hope to see a difference. My Thoughts and Prayers are with Sudan. Happy Eid to the Muslim Communities, and May Allah accept your prayers and may you have a beautiful celebration.” - Sharon Njie, Delegate from Louisiana
"Wishing you a joyous and blessed Eid filled with peace, love, and happiness. May this special occasion bring you and your loved ones closer together and may your prayers be answered. Eid Mubarak! We hope and pray for peace, stability, and safety for the people of Sudan during these challenging times. Our thoughts are with those affected by the recent events in Sudan, and we stand in solidarity with them. May the situation improve soon, and may the people of Sudan find strength and hope to overcome their struggles." - Paul Mwingwa, Delegate from Montana
